When the going gets tough, Kowa moves forward: the LIVALO story

Kowa Pharmaceuticals America launched LIVALO in the United States in 2010 as the first new statin approved in nearly a decade. Entering a category dominated by established brands such as Lipitor, Crestor, and Zocor demanded a disciplined commercial approach and a sales team committed to clinical education.

Despite the challenge, our sales force built the brand territory by territory, leaning on solid clinical data and a differentiated message about the pitavastatin profile. Today LIVALO is approved in 45 countries and stands as a case study in how a mid-sized company can compete and grow in a mature category.

Lipitor, Crestor, and Zocor are registered trademarks of their respective owners.

Development pipeline

The Kowa group's R&D activity is concentrated in its Tokyo and Fuji (Japan) centers, with a therapeutic focus on lifestyle-related diseases, immune disorders, allergy, dermatology, and ophthalmology.

We currently have compounds at various stages of clinical development aimed at cardiovascular, metabolic, and ophthalmic indications, along with preclinical programs in early exploration.
